You’re at the airport, and the check-in line loops around the corner. Then you spot a shorter one with a small “Sky Priority” sign. Who gets to use that? And how do you get in?
That’s Delta Sky Priority. It's a set of airport benefits that save you time (though not everyone is eligible). Who is eligible, how do you get it and what's changed in 2026?
What is Delta Sky Priority?
Delta Sky Priority gives eligible customers faster check-in, accelerated security, early boarding and expedited baggage service. In plain terms, Delta Airlines Sky Priority is a fast lane through the airport.
Two quick clarifications:
- It isn’t a lounge pass: Sky Priority does not grant complimentary entry to the Delta Sky Club.
- It isn’t TSA PreCheck: TSA PreCheck is a separate, government-administered security screening program.
One more thing. Delta says Sky Priority is available wherever Delta and Delta Connection fly. That said not every benefit is available at every airport.
What do you actually get?
Here is the list, and it’s longer than most people expect.
- Delta Sky Priority check-in: For Delta Sky Priority check-in, look for the Sky Priority signs, or just ask an agent. Delta posts signs to help you find these lines.
- Accelerated security: At security, Delta offers expedited lines during peak times, and their locations can change. So don't assume the lane is where it was on the last trip.
- Early boarding: Boarding is a nice perk. Sky Priority customers in zones 1 to 4 can use the Sky Priority lane.
- Expedited baggage service: Your bags get special treatment too. Delta’s expedited baggage service is meant to get them to the carousel first.
- Priority waitlist and priority standby: There’s more. Delta lists priority waitlist and priority standby as benefits.
- Exclusive service support: It also lists an exclusive reservation line, plus priority lanes at Baggage Service Offices and “Need Help?” Centers.
| Airport Touchpoint | Sky Priority Benefit | Availability Details |
|---|---|---|
| Check-in Counter | Dedicated Sky Priority check-in lanes | All Delta & Delta Connection airports |
| Security Checkpoint | Expedited security screening lanes | Major hub airports during peak hours |
| Departure Gate | Dedicated Sky Priority boarding lane | Zones 1 through 4 |
| Baggage Carousel | Expedited priority baggage handling | System-wide checked baggage carousels |
| Customer Support | Priority lines at Baggage Service & Help Centers | Worldwide service counters & phone line |
Who qualifies for Delta Sky Priority?
Delta reserves Sky Priority for Delta One, Delta Premium Select and First passengers. It also covers Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion members, and SkyTeam Elite Plus members.
Some partner airlines count too. Delta names Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Gold members and Virgin Australia Velocity Platinum or Gold members.
Flying with family or friends? Good news. Companions on the same reservation get the same benefits. Book everyone together.
Which Delta Sky Priority level do you need?
Here’s the short answer: Gold Medallion and up. Silver isn’t on Delta’s list.
You earn status with Medallion Qualification Dollars, or MQDs. These are the thresholds The Points Guy reported:
| Medallion Tier | MQD Requirement | Sky Priority Eligibility |
|---|---|---|
| Silver Medallion | 5,000 MQDs | No (Not Included) |
| Gold Medallion | 10,000 MQDs | Yes (Full Sky Priority) |
| Platinum Medallion | 15,000 MQDs | Yes (Full Sky Priority) |
| Diamond Medallion | 28,000 MQDs | Yes (Full Sky Priority) |
That list comes from The Points Guy’s report on the current Medallion year. There’s good news on the 2026 front, too. A Delta spokesperson has confirmed that the qualification requirements remain the same this year.
Delta did adjust its benefits, effective Feb. 1, 2026. Those changes touched perks like status gifting, bonus miles and travel vouchers. Delta’s Sky Priority page still lists the same eligible groups.
How to get Delta Sky Priority
You have three realistic routes.
- Book a premium cabin: Delta says you can get Sky Priority by booking or being upgraded to Delta One, First or Delta Premium Select. It's the quickest way if you only need it for a one off trip.
- Earn Gold status or higher: MQDs come from eligible Delta and partner tickets, select credit card spending and Delta Vacations packages. This one does take a bit of time but is well worth it if you're a frequent flyer.
- Use SkyTeam Elite Plus status: It works on flights operated by Delta and other SkyTeam airlines.
What about credit cards and Comfort+?
This trips people up. A Delta credit card in itself won't get you Sky Priority. One travel site points out that cards such as the Amex Platinum do give you priority boarding on Delta flights, but not Sky Priority.
Cards can still help you reach status. Several Delta Amex cards come with a 2,500 MQD head start.
Delta Comfort+ is also missing from the eligibility list. You get more legroom and more bin space which is a plus. Just check Delta's current rules as you can't necessarily count on the Sky Priority benefits in that cabin.
Sky Priority vs. Sky Club
People mix these up all the time. Sky Priority doesn't include access to the Delta Sky Club lounge. Some of the elite members and premium passengers will have lounge access but that's a separate benefit.
Is it worth it?
Honestly, it depends on how you travel. The perks matter most at busy hubs, on tight connections and when you check bags. If you fly a few times a year, a premium cabin ticket may be the easier way in. If you fly regularly, gold status is usually the goal.
Tips for Delta Airlines priority check in
- Check your boarding pass or reservation for the Sky Priority label before you leave home.
- Follow the signs at the terminal. Can’t find the line? Ask an agent.
- Still arrive early. Lines and security lanes can change.
- Put your companions on the same reservation so they share your perks.
