Allegiant Air is a low cost carrier operating in the U.S. and flying to a huge number of destinations. Before you pack for your trip, check their baggage rules to see what you can take and what additional fees you may have to pay.
Allegiant keeps their base fares very low and charges you separately for any extras. Under the Allegiant Air baggage policy each passenger is entitled to one free personal item. Carry ons and checked bags are all additional and the cost will vary depending on your route and when you purchase them. It is better to read the rule before starting your packing, because this will avoid the unnecessary airport fees.

What Is Allegiant Air’s Carry-On Baggage Policy?
You may bring one carry-on. It can’t exceed 10 x 16 x 22 inches, and that includes wheels, handles and outer pockets. It must fit in the overhead bin.
The Allegiant carry-on prices differ from $10 to $75 depending on the route and time. Allegiant lists no Allegiant carry-on weight limit, so don’t assume one. In case the overhead bins are full, then staff may need to check bags at the gate.

What Is Allegiant’s Personal Item Size Limit?
Allegiant's personal item size limit is (8" x 14" x 18"). Make sure the bag fits completely under the seat in front of you. Purses, briefcases, laptop bags, camera cases and small backpacks all qualify.
An item that won’t fit under the seat may be billed as a carry-on. Allegiant lists an at-airport fee of $50 to $75 for oversized personal items.
How Much Does Allegiant Charge for Carry-On and Checked Bags?
Carry-ons cost $10 to $75. Checked bags have no flat price because fees follow your route. They're applied per segment i.e. one takeoff and one landing. A round trip has two segments.
Adding your bags at check-in early is cheaper than paying at the airport. You can add them during booking, in Manage Travel or in the app.
For the exact pricing see the route-based fee table and baggage fee calculator on the Allegiant Optional Services & Fees page.
What Is Allegiant’s Checked Baggage Size and Weight Limit?
The Allegiant checked bag weight limit is 50lbs (22kg). The Allegiant checked bag size limit is 80 linear inches (203 cm), found by adding height, width and length. A 30 x 20 x 16-inch bag comes to 66 inches.
You can reserve up to four checked bags online. Five is the overall maximum per passenger.
Extra charges apply:
- 51 to 70 lbs: $50
- 71 to 100 lbs: $75
- Over 80 linear inches: $75
Allegiant won’t accept bags above 99 pounds. If the sports equipment is accepted, it will count as checked baggage. You may need to pay the usual fees. Equipment up to 70lbs is normally accepted without an excess weight charge (although of course there are size and equipment specific restrictions).
What Are Allegiant’s Carry-On Liquid Rules?
For Allegiant carry-on liquids, the airline defers to TSA. Containers must hold 3.4 oz (100ml) or less and be able to fit together in one clear quart size bag. Medications, baby formula, baby food and breast milk may exceed that size. Declare them at the checkpoint.
Federal law prohibits hazardous materials like aerosols and compressed gases. Spare lithium batteries must travel in carry-on bags. Hoverboards and electric skateboards are not accepted at all. Smart bag batteries are capped at 100 watt-hours.
How Does Allegiant Air Check-In Work for Baggage?
Allegiant Air check-in gives you two ways to add bags. You can use Manage Travel or the app all the way up until you get to the airport and check in / until you print your boarding pass. You can also add bags during advance online check-in. Airport baggage charges are higher.
What Else Can You Bring Without Extra Baggage Fees?
Some items don’t count against your allowance:
- Wheelchairs, scooters, walkers and canes
- Strollers
- One car seat per fare-paying passenger
- A coat, an umbrella, a diaper bag and food for the flight
How to Avoid Allegiant Baggage Fees
Most surprise charges come from a few mistakes:
- Assuming a carry-on is included. Only the personal item is free.
- Waiting until the airport. Add bags at booking instead.
- Skipping measurements. Include wheels and handles.
- Packing to exactly 50 pounds. Weigh your bag at home and leave a buffer.
- Buying a bundle without checking it. Bundles can only be bought at booking, are non-refundable and can’t be changed later. Extra bags still cost extra.
What Happens If Your Bag Is Gate-Checked, Delayed or Damaged?
If your bag is gate-checked, pull out valuables, keys, electronics, medication and fragile items first. Allegiant lists gate-check fees of $0 to $75.
If your checked baggage is damaged or lost, go to the Allegiant Baggage Service Office at the airport to report it. Reports are due within 12 hours of arrival. If you can’t visit the office, file the online Mishandled Baggage Report instead.
What Is Trip Flex on Allegiant?
What is Trip Flex on Allegiant? It’s change-fee protection. You can change your reservation once, whether the date, flight or destination, without paying the $25-per-person, each-way change fee. You still pay any fare difference.
Flight only tickets can be changed up to one hour prior to departure. Air-and-hotel packages need 72 hours’ notice. Allegiant lists Trip Flex at $29 to $43 per person, per segment. Its pages don’t say whether you can add it after booking, so check Manage Travel.
Trip Flex is not a baggage-fee waiver. Trip Flex can be cancelled for a full refund within 24 hours of purchase (provided no changes have been made to the itinerary). That refund will be on the Trip Flex purchase only and will not automatically make the flight reservation refundable.
Latest update: Allegiant Air and Sun Country
Allegiant completed its acquisition of Sun Country Airlines on 13 May 2026. The two airlines are however still operating separately as the integration continues. Their booking systems also remain separate for now.
Passengers should continue to manage their bookings, baggage and travel arrangements via the airline that they originally booked with. When booking with Allegiant, follow their baggage fees and rules.
